Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why bamboo?
Buying products made using organically grown bamboo is not only good for your baby but great for the environment. There are numerous functional benefits over and above its silky softness. Organically grown bamboo is a positive impact plantation that is more planet friendly than cotton and manmade fibres like polyester.

I have heard bamboo is very absorbent, why is this a good thing?
It is claimed that bamboo is 60% more water absorbent than cotton. You may have also heard people talking about bamboo fabrics being more hydroscopic or having increased wicking properties. Basically it all means the same thing and that is that in any instance where drawing moisture is a benefit bamboo is a great textile to use. Products like our towels and washers will dry baby faster. Sleeping products in like the muslins wraps and sheets will also keep baby dryer.

Why is bamboo better for the environment?
Cotton is 5 % of the world’s crops but has accounted for 25% of the worlds pesticides. Bamboo requires no pesticides to grow as it is naturally antibacterial. Bamboo requires little to no water to grow. Inhales CO² and exhales O² into the atmosphere. Bamboo is a very renewable plantation that has a positive impact on the environment. If you have ever planted bamboo in your backyard you will know it grows fast and abundant. It can be harvested over and over again.

Are bamboo fabrics hard wearing?
Yes, textiles made using bamboo can be hard wearing like the entire range from Little Bamboo. Little Bamboo is created using optimal constructions and compositions to ensure a balance of beauty and performance. We have incorporated nearly 40 years of heritage in quality nursery textiles into developing this range. By overlaying our exacting quality standards over this relatively new yarn we have developed a range that is user friendly, affordable and will satisfy the most discerning consumers. Purchasers do need to beware that in some instance bamboo is not as hardy as other natural fibres and blends. Even though bamboo textiles have been around for thousands of years bamboo is only recently becoming main stream in manufacturing. There are numerous examples of products we have seen that you can put a baby’s finger through or recommend dry cleaning (a no no for baby textiles). Look for products that are not only beautiful but serviceable. Some bamboo textiles can be susceptible to pilling, excessive shrinkage or growth and seam slippage
